Wine Is Art had the opportunity to test out a new app, Pyramidia, which is set to change the way we do wine tastings.
An intimate tasting of a selection of wines from Ernesto Catena Vineyards provided the context. Pyramidia is an anonymous voting app where users have the opportunity to vote on just about anything providing the “event” has been set up. It works extremely well in a wine tasting, particularly a blind tasting. Users will taste the wines and are then encouraged to create a pyramid, using their smartphone, showing the order in which they enjoyed the selection, the top of the pyramid being their favourite.
The four distinct wines had their labels obscured in order to avoid any subconscious bias and the guests began to taste. We tasted and discussed each wine alongside some fantastic insight from the resident sommelier.
We voted and changed our selections throughout the evening, then once the tasting was finished and everyone was happy with their respective Pyramids the results were revealed. In first place the Alma Negra, followed by the Animal Cabernet Sauvignon and the Siesta Malbec and last but certainly not least the Tikal Jubilo.
Pyramidia proved a very enjoyable take on a traditional wine tasting, and it is quite clear that its use for larger and more formal events will be fantastic.
